From July to September, we’ve invited the Portuguese to help us Look After Mozambique.
We asked you to deliver the prescription glasses you no longer used to our colleagues at one of the 200+ MultiOpticas stores.
Once verified and prepared, they could be delivered to the children of Mozambique and their families. For each pair of prescription glasses donated, MultiOpticas offered one additional one.
With the glasses clean, recovered and classified, we flew them, as well as our team to Mozambique. From 6th to 19th October, a team of MultiOpticas professionals, including some of our best optometrists and technicians, were on the ground every day performing eye exams at schools in the Nampula region and offering prescription glasses to children, their families, and teachers who needed them.
Looking After Mozambique is a mission of MultiOpticas and Helpo. This mission was also joined by entrepreneur, traveler and speaker André Leonardo who gave lectures and promote actions at the University of Nampula for students of the optometry course. With your help, we were able to:
- Conduct 1.000 eye exams;
- Find out 3 in each 5 Mozambican examed needed some form of eye correction – some of which needing correction of over 10 dioptries;
- Give out 598 prescription spectacles.
But this was just the beginning: MultiOpticas left all the equipment in Mozambique to be used freely by the university and will also offer 2 internship scholarships at MultiOpticas stores in Portugal to the best 2 finalists students of the Optometry course.
